M2 PRESSWIRE-8 October 1998-BOOK DATA: Book Data works with VISTA to link CDe to BookEasy (C)1994-98 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

RDATE:021098

Book Data is pleased to announce the launch of its new CDe service, which allows users of Book Data's CD-ROMs online access directly from their CD-ROM, for on-demand updates to their static price and availability information. A single click from their Cl )-ROM provides users with a direct hot-link to the offline CDe database, which is updated on a daily basis. The live service is available now and customers can contact the Sales Department to trial the service or to order it. Book Data has been working closely with VISTA to ensure that CDe also links to the valuable trade information and e-commerce services from their BookEasy site. Integrating Book Data's CD-ROMs with VISTA's BookEasy service allows users of essential bibliographic tools for the first time ever to access real-time trade data.

The difficulty of getting hold of the true status of a title has been one of the longest-standing complaints of the book trade. Book Data's CDe service offers a simple and automated solution. CDe integrates the immediacy of information from the Internet with the proven ease-of-use of the CD-ROM.

From November, Book Data's CDe service will be enhanced further by daily updates to US titles from the complete Baker & Taylor inventory database. Information is generated on a daily basis by Baker & Taylor and incorporated via the Internet into the online CDe database within hours. US stock flagging has long been an attractive feature of Book Data's international CD-ROMs and we are ensuring that this important information is made even more valuable by enormously increasing its currency. We believe that allowing users access to this valuable resource in the integrated, simple and easy-to-use CDe interface, we are helping to make life easier for booksellers everywhere and, vitally, allowing them and publishers to sell more books throughout the world. Daily information from a range of further sources including other wholesalers will be incorporated into the CDe service over the coming months.

BookEasy is a subsidiary of VISTA Computer Services, with offices in Somerset, NJ, White Plains, NY and London, England. Companies that join BookEasy benefit by offering booksellers Internet customer self-service for title, price, and availability inquiries, as well as order and order status capabilities. A fast-growing number of booksellers in the UK and globally are using BookEasy to obtain daily updates on price and availability, to check the status of the orders and dues, and to place new orders, seven days a week, 24 hours a day, no matter what country or time zone they are in.
