Fed: Govt to intervene in dispute - Abbott=2

Mr ABBOTT says the government will be intervening in the commission this afternoon
at 3pm in support of a return to work order.

He denies the government is intervening on behalf of the employer.

Mr ABBOTT says the government supports the right of the 12,000 workers currently stood
down at other car plants to get on with their jobs and earn a decent living.

More than 350 Tristar workers today voted unanimously to continue their 13-day strike
to force the company to sign on to the union trust fund Manusafe to protect $17 million
in entitlements.

Mr ABBOTT says the government is absolutely committed to protecting workers' entitlements,
but only through its own taxpayer-funded scheme.
